Going ahead with solar panels for your home can be an intimidating and daunting decision. We’re here to help support you throughout the process and we have the necessary information and guidance to ensure you go ahead with the package that’s perfect for your requirements – every home is different.

Are solar panels effective in the North East climate?

Yes! Solar panels are effective in the North East or even in regions with even more rain! Modern panels can generate electricity from daylight rather than direct sunlight, making them efficient in cloudy or overcast conditions. Regions with similar weather, like Germany, are global leaders in solar energy adoption, proving that steady daylight hours matter more than sunny days.

How much money can you save on my energy bills with our solar panels?

Savings can differ depening on the system size and energy use, but a typical 4kW system can reduce annual electricity bills by around £350–£450. With energy prices continously rising, your savings are likely to increase over time. If you combine solar with a battery, your reliance on the grid decreases, adding further value and increasing your savings!

What is the cost of installing solar panels?

The installation cost of a standard residential system ranges between £5,000 and £8,000. Government initiatives, such as the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), allow you to earn money for exporting surplus energy back to the grid, easing long-term costs. Occasionally, local councils and community schemes offer additional incentives in specific areas.

Do you need planning permission for solar panels in the North East?

Most homes actually do not require planning permission to install solar panels or a battery, as they are classed as “permitted development.” However, exceptions apply for listed buildings or homes in conservation areas. It’s worth checking with your local council if your property falls into these categories.

How long do solar panels last and what maintenance is required?

Solar panels typically last 25–30 years, with some manufacturers offering warranties for 20+ years. Maintenance is very minimal as there are no moving parts which could start showing wear and tear. An occasional cleaning to remove dirt, leaves, or snow ensures optimal performance, and an annual inspection (which we can of course help with) can identify any issues early and ensure we counteract any issues before they become a bigger problem!

Can solar panels work with battery storage systems?

Yes, battery storage is an excellent addition to a solar system and we always recommend them to all of our amazing customers. Batteries allow you to store any extra energy collected for later use – e.g. that midnight fridge run!

Battery systems range from £3,000 to £8,000 (depending on capacity) but they can significantly boost your energy independence and savings over the long term –  which is exactly what we want!
